The River Orwell is in 24hr use by large cargo ships and RoRo ferries plus lots of pleasure sailing/motoring vessels which makes it interesting sailing. The River is nine miles long with the entrance leading to the English Channel.
This photo (right) shows Jean helming past the Flexistowe port with John keeping an eye out for other boats.
The scenery was very picturesque passing small villages, sandy beaches and wooded banks. The sail gave us a valuable opportunity to reccee the river, familiarise ourselves with the various channel and cardinal marks for when we take Sabbaticus out by ourselves.
This photo shows a floating light house on a barge - this was the first time we had seen this type of lighthouse before.
Ideal conditions for sailing. |

Hello Sailor...s,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great name! Very pleased there hasn't been a mutiny....yet. Special hi to my BMB. Sitting here watching a delayed telecast of Brazils annihilation at Germany's hands. All well, both boys still forging ahead with Defence careers, Matt RAAF, Jared-Army. Civil engineering is only available through the army. Neither have had there officer candidate interviews. There are many a slip between cup and lip and cannot see me as mother to 2 defence tikes. Poor ADFA having M and J at the same time.....mhahahaha!
Should I write newsy letters here or still send them to your email address,
Love to you both,
I do hope you are being adequately respectful of the Captain
Glad to see you on the water. Look forward to hearing of more adventures!
ReplyDeleteCongrats John and Leanne, she looks a beauty!
ReplyDeleteWe are like ships passing in the night, having been in Ipswich off and on for the past 6 weeks staying with family. We left just last Saturday for a trip in SE Ireland, all on terra firma for us these days! Safe sailing and fair winds, Dale and Nigel
