Although we had both enjoyed our careers in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, after 25 years for Leanne and 30 years for John, it was time to leave the comfy lifestyle behind us to pursue a gypsy lifestyle on the sea.  We also needed to get going before anymore grey hairs appeared and we lost our courage to a undertake a complete lifestyle change.

Our dream of sailing away has been finally realised as we begin the next phase of our lives to 'slow the pace down' and adapt to a cruising lifestyle on board our Oyster 49 renamed to 'Sabbaticus'.  Sabbaticus, a Latin word meaning 'hiatus from work for reflection and renewal' seemed a good name for our change of lifestyle and what we will try to achieve.

While we were keen for a lifestyle change, this has been slightly more challenging as we purchased our boat from Oyster, on the other side of the world in Ipswich, UK, and have started our sailing adventures from there.

  1. Well done Leanne and John - Love the updates - keep safe, keep your heads down in any trouble hotspots and keep the stories coming. Meanwhile the rest of us will carry on with the 8 to 5 life.

    Best wishes
